Sarah Pitblado

Sarah Pitblado, originally from Trois-Rivières, is a Quebecois pastry chef and author.

Passionate about baking from a young age, she self-taught her skills over the years. Her early beginnings were marked by simple recipes, like muffins and other small pastries. Then, she moved on to more daring projects, such as lemon tarts, tiered cakes, and entremets. It was during educational days spent at her grandmother Françoise’s house that she began to create more complex and chaotic desserts: she enjoyed a great deal of freedom in the kitchen. Sarah could tackle recipes that required a lot of time… and a lot of washing up. Besides a grandmother delighted to look after her granddaughter, who else would willingly accept an 11-year-old whirlwind wielding food coloring in their pristine kitchen? Everyone has to start somewhere: the first attempts were not always successful… However, with practice, Sarah quickly became the go-to person in her circle for desserts, macarons, and particularly, custom cakes. She loves making anything, as long as the final product is delicious and the presentation is enticing. For her, the saying “you eat with your eyes” is not taken lightly. It is this strength in decoration that she showcased during the televised competition “Le Meilleur pâtissier du Québec” in 2021. Sarah had just turned 18, making her the youngest amateur baker in the contest. With her sweet tooth, the aspect of baking she loves is tasting the finished product. However, what she enjoys even more is the opportunity to share her creations with others, observe their reactions, and delight in their satisfaction.

Coming from a family of athletes, physical activity has always been a part of Sarah’s life. She played basketball for 10 years, ending her career in the First Division of college basketball. She now practices the sport more recreationally, along with soccer and running. After completing her college studies, her interest in food and science led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nutrition at Université Laval in Quebec. She believes that the occasional dessert as part of a balanced diet is an essential element of a healthy lifestyle. Sweet treats are one of life’s little pleasures!
